The first step in Finney's escape plan came from Bruce, one of The Grabber’s previous victims. Through a mysterious black phone that connects Finney to the spirits of past victims, Bruce pointed out a cracked floor tile. Finney began digging a tunnel underneath it, hoping to create an escape route. While the tunnel didn’t lead him out, it played a crucial role later in his plan.

2. Arming Himself  

Another spirit, Billy, suggested using a loose cable in the basement. Finney also received advice from Robin, his late friend, who taught him how to fight back. Using these tips, Finney turned an old telephone receiver into a weapon by filling it with dirt, giving him the strength to defend himself when the time came.

3. Cracking the Code  

Griffin, another ghostly ally, revealed the combination to the lock on the basement door. Though Finney’s initial attempt to escape through the front door failed leading to him being recaptured this information helped him understand the layout of the house and prepare for his next move.

4. Distracting the Dog

The Grabber’s loyal dog, Samson, was another obstacle. Vance, one of the spirits, advised Finney to use frozen meat from the basement freezer to distract the dog. This clever tactic would prove vital during Finney’s final escape attempt.

5. The Final Showdown 

When The Grabber came to the basement with an axe, Finney lured him into the tunnel he had dug earlier. The villain fell into the pit, where sharp bars at the bottom injured him. Seizing his chance, Finney used the weighted telephone receiver to strike The Grabber and then strangled him with the phone cord. As he did so, the voices of The Grabber’s past victims mocked their former captor.

Freedom at Last

With The Grabber defeated, Finney finally escaped the house and reunited with his sister Gwen, who had been searching for him tirelessly. Together, they brought an end to The Grabber’s reign of terror in their town.
